The main Characters:

        Yoshio Kawashita. He's the main character in the book. He's a Japanese figther pilot who has been abducted by Aliens.

        Anna Nestor. She's an infamous adventurer, she owns a space ship and a successful trade empire.

        The Waunter's. Oomalo & Alae Waunter are a married couple who find Yoshio.

        Loytnant Elvox. He's a United Stars officer who plays not that big a role in the story.

Summary:

Whilst living and working in their large space ship which has been equipped as a listening station Alae and Oomalo Waunters monitor a planet they assume is inhabited by the Perfidisians. There is very little known about this race and the Waunters are stationed there to find out more. Then, the planet ceases to emit sound. The Waunters can't hear anything. They decide to go and check things out because if they discover an uninhabited planet they can keep it according to the law. When they land on it's surface they find a totally deserted planet, only one building is still standing, a glass dome. In this dome they find Yoshio Kawashita. The Waunters, disappointed since they aren't the first people on the planet manage to get a 10% share of the planet's profits which will be none since it's a dead and barren wasteland. They leave Yoshio to the care of Anna Nestor and United Stars who are represented by Loytnant Elvox.
So Yoshio who has no idea what year it is and is ignorant of things like space travel goes with Anna Nestor after the legal papers are taken care of. Anna guides him through the 24th century and eventually they fall in love and marry. Unfortunately fate has another surprise for them.....
